Minimising Back Problems

Do you know how many of your colleagues suffer from backpain ?

Did you know that back pain is the single most important cause of occupational ill-health and
absenteeism? It can have a major impact on individual’s lives and it can also have a huge
impact on the effectiveness of your workforce.

And did you know that Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a general duty of care on
an employer for the health and welfare of employees at work?

It’s a problem you can’t ignore !

But we don’t do any physical work in the office so we’re o.k.!” Not true…..it’s the sitting that’s
the problem.

Though manual work might account for significant numbers of problem backs, the real
problem stems from our inactivity. We work longer hours in the office and we exercise less.

We are out of shape and out of balance.

Many of us are seated for most of our waking hours whether at home, commuting to work, or
at the office. And although sitting requires less physical effort than standing or walking, it puts
enormous stress on the lumbar area.

The combined effect of our sedentary lifestyle and a job that requires prolonged periods spent
behind a desk can have a lasting detrimental physical effect and adversely effect productivity
at work.

So what happens to your back when you sit down?...
